Feb: Intersectional Feminism Aotearoa meetup

Intersectional Feminism, Aotearoa was created as a safe space for feminists who believe that oppressions intersect, and cannot be tackled alone.

While we are a learning space for intersectional feminists, this is not Feminism 101 or Intersectionality 101. An understanding of feminism will not be enough for this group. Members need to have a strong hold on concepts like privilege, oppression and intersectionality, and be committed to this form of feminism specifically.

Please keep an eye on your ‘others’ folder if you send us a join request, as we have a screening process for new members.

“There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives.” – Audre Lorde

If you are interested in Joining Intersectional Feminism, Aotearoa, please request to join here.

Feburary Working Bee

Come to 128 for a working bee this month – Saturday the 21st from 11am

We’re gonna be getting rid of yard junk, chucking out some pretty cool stuff that people could take home, and getting it all ready for the downstairs switch around and becoming totally kid safe and inclusive to whanau.
Exciting stuff!!!

You are welcome to bring food to share – the kitchen is vegetarian but you can bring pre-prepared non-veg food for eating elsewhere in the house.

Come and meet the 128 Collective members, members of groups who use 128, and other lovely people from associated communities 🙂

See you there!

Femme Club Wellington

The first monthly meet-up was lovely, with about a dozen Femmes and friends aged from less than one year old to 40+ eating snacks by the fire, playing drawing games, and having yarns. It was great to see a mix of ages, genders, and ethnicities, and for everyone to meet some new people.

If anyone would like to help organise the October Femme Club meet up please get in touch with Tabby Besley or Neon Switch, via the Femme Club Wellington Facebook group, or send an email to The 128 Collective who will pass it on.

Femme Club Wellington presents: Carb on Carb

Femme Club Wellington welcomes Femmes and friends to the first Femme Club monthly fun fest!! (did we mention it’s totally free!!?).

We want to host a monthly booze-free social event for femmes and friends. We want everyone to be involved and to help make it awesome, bring ideas, skills, and playlists and get this party started!
Each month we’ll have a different semi-organised workshop, discussion, presentation, skill share, or crafting circle, plus a pot luck meal together and yarns by the fire, before watching a film on the projector.
There will be mattresses and dusty blankets (BYO blanket if you have dust allergies), and everyone is welcome to sleep over! Woooop!!

**********************************************************
If any Femmes have skills they would like to share (from eyelash tinting to changing a tyre) or a film they think we’d all love, please post them here! Then we can set a schedule for the coming months 😉

**********************************************************
Our official Femme Club website will be up and running soon at femmeclubnz.com, so if you know any links to amazing femme-fabulous articles, blogs, essays, tumblrs, or other things on the interwebs, please chuck them all in an email and send them to Tabby in the Femme Club Fb group, [or email them to The 128 Collective via our contact page and we will pass them on].
Also if you know of any awesome Femme events or news in the near future, have reviews from local femme events recently past, or anything Femme at all really! Let’s make a centre point for all things Femme in Aotearoa.

*********************************************************
The idea of screenprinting patches has been going around, so if you are keen to try please get in touch with Let us know so we can figure how much supplies to get. Screen printing will cost $2 each for supplies.
If folks can help to pay for the firewood to keep us all warm, it’ll cost about $20. Ahi will buy it on the way there, but if anyone wants to put in $5 that would be magical, just give it to Ahi or Tabby. On behalf of everyones warm toes, thanks!

*********************************************************
The kitchen, bathroom and hangout space is mobility friendly, and we would like to ask that people limit the amount of perfume/deodorant/cologne worn due to chemical sensitivities, and that smokers smoke only in the back garden and not around the front entrance way.

***********************************************************
Where to go: it is at 128 Abel Smith Street, Te Aro, Wellington – the big old ramshackle building with the banner and mural outside. Come in the front door turn right, and we’re in the 2nd door.
When is it: Friday 26th Sept 2014 (see timetable for times)
Who can come: Femmes and friends of any ethnicity, class, gender, or age, however be aware that the film screening may be 18+
What to bring: your incredible self, your amazing friends, some food if you can (but don’t worry if you can’t) carbs are the preferance, Your ideas, dreams, and experiences, and a snug blanket or sleeping bag if you plan to stay the night. It’s also shoes off inside, so bring warm socks.

**************************************************************

Femme Club Wellington

Femme Club is about LGBTQIAA (+) folks reclaiming femininity, saying a fierce fuck you to patriarchy and how we’re ‘supposed to’ do femininity, and doing it our way.
Femme is a celebration of the diversity, strength and power of femininity.
Femme is defiance.
Femme ignores the male gaze & tells patriarchy to fuck off.
Femme is a refusal of the pressure to be thinner, whiter, pimple-free, wrinkle-free, smaller, quieter.
Femme says that we’ll take the short skirts but you can keep the catcalls to yourself.
Femme is certainly queer, but it doesn’t tell you who you should love or who you should make out with.
Femme is not the opposite of butch.
Femme is open to everyone of all genders and sexes.
Not all women are femmes, and not all femmes are women.
Femme is about pleasure, not about suffering.
Femme is about healing.
Femme is about taking the time to be present with the body, to make time to care for yourself.
Femme is about subjecthood, not objectification.
Femme is about self-making, about magic.
Femme is a little bit of a mess.
Femmes don’t give a shit if you can tell they didn’t wake up looking like that, if their hair colour isn’t natural, if they have a run in their stockings.
Femme is about politics, about power, about play.
