Feb: Intersectional Feminism Aotearoa meetup

Intersectional Feminism, Aotearoa was created as a safe space for feminists who believe that oppressions intersect, and cannot be tackled alone.

While we are a learning space for intersectional feminists, this is not Feminism 101 or Intersectionality 101. An understanding of feminism will not be enough for this group. Members need to have a strong hold on concepts like privilege, oppression and intersectionality, and be committed to this form of feminism specifically.

Please keep an eye on your ‘others’ folder if you send us a join request, as we have a screening process for new members.

“There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives.” – Audre Lorde

If you are interested in Joining Intersectional Feminism, Aotearoa, please request to join here.

**Purple text, all caps, font designed to look like the letters are ‘bleeding’. Text reads ‘MY FEMINISM WILL BE INTERSECTIONAL OR IT WILL BE BULLSHIT’. There are five little purple hearts designed to look like precious stones both below and above the text. The background is light blue at the top and blends into light purple at the bottom.**

Feburary Working Bee

Come to 128 for a working bee this month – Saturday the 21st from 11am

We’re gonna be getting rid of yard junk, chucking out some pretty cool stuff that people could take home, and getting it all ready for the downstairs switch around and becoming totally kid safe and inclusive to whanau.
Exciting stuff!!!

You are welcome to bring food to share – the kitchen is vegetarian but you can bring pre-prepared non-veg food for eating elsewhere in the house.

Come and meet the 128 Collective members, members of groups who use 128, and other lovely people from associated communities 🙂

See you there!

BDS Wellington meeting 6pm every Tuesday at 128

Our Wellington group supports the global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. BDS is an effective global non-violent movement initiated by Palestinian civil society in 2005, which has three prinicples:

* End the occupation and colonization of the 1967 occupied territories (The West Bank, Gaza, East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights)

* Recognize the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; and

* Respect, protect and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN Resolution 194.

The BDS call was endorsed by over 170 Palestinian political parties, organizations, trade unions and movements. The signatories represent the refugees, Palestinians in the OPT, and Palestinian citizens of Israel.

This movement is anchored in universal human rights and international law in opposition to military occupation, settler-colonialism, and apartheid, something people of conscience of all ethnicities, races, and religions can support.
An ethical struggle for justice and equal rights in every context entails strongly condemning all forms of racism, anti-semitism, racist symbols, stereotypes and hate speech. We call on people to join us in a morally consistent stance that opposes racism and bigotry in all forms.

The effective strategy for people of conscience to bring about these goals, are Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions. More info at: http://www.bdsmovement.net/bdsintro

Sunday May 5th Working Bee

Sunday May 5th at 11.30am come to 128 for a working bee! Theres lots to be done, including sanding, priming and painting the windows out the front on the ground floor, fixing the planter boxes and planting flowers, and building a table and bench seats in the back yard to seat 20 people! Its gonna be heaps fun!! Theres also lots of paints and art supplies to sort through, shelving needs moving around, dress ups need to go downstairs to the free box, and the pantry needs an autumn clear out. There are also heaps of board games with mixed up pieces to sort through, the new wheelchair ramp needs finishing, and someone needs to take the worm farm home, because the worms could do with some love (and a steady stream of food scraps).

We’re expecting a really good turn out, most of the groups who are based at 128 and many of the groups who regularly book 128 are keen to help out, so if you feel like doing some cool stuff at 128 or getting to know people a bit better come along!
There will be a big list of jobs and all the gear needed to get them done!
We really look forward to seeing you there, and hope you’ll stick around after for a big feed around the freshly built outdoor community dinner table.

Love and Solidarity
– The 128 Collective
